ShAFF Single Shot Is Back
6th Jan 2014

One Image, One Winner, Open to All
The ShAFF Lowepro Single Shot photo competition returns for a second year in 2014 with sponsorship from Lowepro and Joby . Open to all, amateur or pro, entrants may each submit just a single image on the theme of the Adventure. A panel of judges including renowned outdoor and action sports and mountain bike professional photographer Geoff Waugh will select a shortlist of six which will then be judged by public vote both on Facebook and at the Showroom/Workstation during the festival weekend (4-6th April).
Organised to run alongside the annual ShAFF adventure photo competition, also sponsored by Lowepro, by MyOutdoors , the competition allows a talented amateur or aspiring pro with that one magic shot to compete with the experienced professional with a lifetime's portfolio. Last year saw a shortlist of 6 images covering everything from running through liquid mud by headtorch to paragliding and was won by amateur photographer Simon Read with an image of mountain biking on The Great Ridge between Castleton and Edale despite strong competition from professionals. The competition opens on January 6th with entry by email to editorial@myoutdoors.co.uk and entries are accepted until mid day on Friday 28th February.
The winner will receive any bag from the currently available Lowepro range and £50. For over 40 years, the company have worked to develop and perfect camera carrying systems - maybe to the point of obsession. But thy've never stopped at just innovating and improving products. Lowepro strongly believe that they owe it to themselves, and to the industry, to do whatever they possibly can to protect and save the environment. The result has been a world leading range of photographer optimised packs suitable for the most hostile environments and adventurous of activities. Chosen by professionals Lowepro bags give years of reliable use whilst allowing the user to particapte fully in their chosen activity.
Loraine Morgan, Senior Marketing Manager for Lowepro and Joby said, “We are thrilled to be supporting SHAFF 2014 as both Lowepro and Joby are products perfect for outdoor photographers and filmmakers. We are looking forward to connecting with the crowd and seeing what they can come up with for their competition entries!”.
Festival Director Matt Heason said, "It's a great to be able to host a competition where amateurs like last year's winner Simon Read get to compete on a level playing field against pro photographers. We also love the concept that it's judged on one great shot that sums up the spirit of adventure which is what ShAFF's all about. We are very grateful to Lowepro and Joby for their continuing support and to Dave Mycroft from MyOutdoors for his tireless work in organising our photo competitions and exhibition, as well as our Second Hand Kit Sale, which help make ShAFF into so much more than just a film festival."
