Record number of Bike Films at ShAFF

13th Feb 2014

29* isn't just a bike wheel size.  It's also the number of cycling films we're screening at this year's ShAFF including two special Bike Film Sessions and four feature length cycling films. [Note - We're up to 31 now with our free screenings at Cityscape Cinema & Tour De Cinema]

We reckon it's a record and it's pretty fitting as Sheffield Adventure Film Festival and Cycle to the Cinema are proud to be part of the Tour De Cinema presented by Sheffield Doc/Fest as part of the Yorkshire Festival to celebrate the 100 days preceding the Grand Départ in Leeds on 5th July 2014.

ShAFF judge, Nik Cook, a cyclist who firmly believes that the magic bike formula is N+1 (where N is his current number of bikes) says:  "From local riders on local trails to big air freeride and big downhill hitters plus trials tricks, vintage velo and city couriers, there's something for every cycling tribe at this year's Sheffield Adventure Film Festival."

ShAFF PR, Lissa Cook, a cyclist who firmly believes the magic bike formula should be N-1 (where N is the current number of Nik's bikes) says:  "It's great to have such a huge line up of bike films at this year's ShAFF.  My personal highlight is the premiere of Kathryn Bertine's documentary on why women cyclists aren't receiving Half the Road.  We're constantly striving to show more films by female athletes and filmmakers and I look forward to a day when women in adventure films will fill half the film sessions at ShAFF."

PS Check out Sheffield landscape photographer Dan Arkle's long exposure video tribute to biking, running & climbing in the Peak District, 'Lights, Camera, Action'.  The BIKE image above is taken from the film and used cumulative light painting timelapse (and apparently Quality Street wrappers to tint the light!)
