Improved judging process using web-based voting app

Last year we launched a brand new web-based voting app called vot.io to enable festival-goers to rate the films they had just watched, and to give us a fairer assessment of the People’s Choice award.
This year we’ve developed the app to enable the judges to rate the films as they have watched them, as well as make observations and comments about them which will enrich the festival website for visitors. The result of the new system meant that when the judges grouped to select the final winners last Friday, they were presented with shortlists across the various award categories aggregated from individual scores.
In the instance that a judge is also a filmmaker or has an obvious vested interest in a film, that judge is entirely removed from the process of voting for that particular category.
