Al Lee Headlines ShAFF 2014 Photo Exhibition

The line-up for next year's Sheffield Adventure Festival Photo Exhibition has been announced with multi-award winning video producer Alastair Lee headlining the show with a rare exhibition of prints.
The Lowepro and Joby sponsored exhibition, curated by MyOutdoors' Managing Editor Dave Mycroft, runs from March 31st to April 11th at The Workstation, with ShAFF running from 4th-6th April. Spread over 2 floors and attracting over 3500 visitors in 2013 next year’s line-up also includes a superb collection of prints from Dan Arkle, Dan Lane, Mike Hutton, Andy Nelson and Daniel Wildey.

EXHIBITORS
Although better known in recent years for his string of award winning films, including The Asgard Project, Autana and The Last Great Climb trilogy, Alastair Lee has been taking photographs since he first went travelling at the age of twenty. The main focus in front of the camera has always been his fascination for wild landscapes realised through many rock climbing and mountaineering adventures. The author of two travel guides to Australia and New Zealand, Alastair's first full colour photography book was Eyes Up (2003), a selection of images from his worldwide travels. This was followed by Forgotten Landscape (2004), and his acclaimed Pendle (2009), a collection of photographs of his beloved Pendle Hill. Further books about the Lake District (2010) and Baffin Island (2011) have both received rave reviews from the photographic press.

Dan Arkle hit the headlines in 2012 with his stunning time-lapse climbing images and is based in Sheffield. Dan's photography is driven by three things, Nature, Climbing and Pushing Photographic Boundaries. Although based and predominantly working in the Peak District Dan has also worked in The Alps, where he put together a collection of dramatic panoramas, and in his Little Planets project he creates stunning and unique images by stitching a series of photos together to create a panorama then bending the panorama around on itself to create a circle and finally filling in the hole in the middle.

Based in the Peak District Mike Hutton has spent the last decade travelling the globe to create stunning images of climbers in the landscape. His photos and articles feature regularly in Climb and Climber magazine as well as numerous books and commercial advertisements. Dedicated to capturing the action in the best light and location no challenge is ever too great for him. Mike had lectured for many clubs and organizations about his travels and is always on the lookout for new clients who demand the highest standards in photography.

Dan Lane whenever he’s not in a lecture theatre at Bangor University Dan Lane is continually trying to push his photographic exploits further and further. He’s already achieved a lot in the world of Rock Climbing, Landscape and Adventure photography, especially considering he’s only 19, and with no intentions of letting his drive to improve letting up anytime soon he’s certainly one to watch out for.
Starting out with photographs in climbing guides, then moving on to climbing magazines, in which he’s had numerous photographs published, along with a fair few articles too. With his foot well inside the climbing door he decided it was time to broaden his horizons, moving out into other adventure sports such as fell running and cycling (both mountain biking and road cycling) amongst others. Recently, however, he’s been concentrating on landscape photography, with the belief that a good action photograph can be vastly improved further with the compositional and lighting thoughts of a landscape photographer I the sense that the picture should be framed to perfection first, and only then should the action be introduced. This is an interesting idea and one that could ultimately, with a lot of work, pay great dividends…we look forward to seeing what comes out of it!

Andy Nelson is a professional freelance adventure and action sports photographer based out of London, UK. From the age of 5 his father would take him out for walks the Peak District, showing him the hills he'd walked in his youth. At 8 they completed the Pennine Way together. It started a lifelong love affair with hills and the outdoors so it is no surprise he has a passion for representing the lifestyle I love. Since then he's been lucky enough to travel the world shooting and participating in action and adventure sports.
Andy strives to produce quality images that capture not just the high action and drama of extreme sport but also tell the story of the athletes involved. For this reason he's chosen to work in both the commercial and editorial realm, keen to document ‘the road trip’, ‘the big adventure’ or simply the ‘the evening session with friends’

Daniel Wildey was one of the runners up in last year's ShAFF Single Shot photo competition and returns in 2014 with a stunning collection of photographs following a year which has seen him shoot some of the best known names in the outdoors world.
Following 2 years photographing for a holiday and adventure company in the Italian Dolomites Daniel moved to Cumbria where he has expanded his adventure portfolio and attracted many new clients from the outdoor industry.
With regular contributions in Church of the Open Sky and a string of blogs and publications Daniel Wildey is one of the fastest emerging talents in the industry.
