Red Bull's Free Open Air Cityscape Cinema is Back
17th Mar 2014

WITH EXTREME SKATE, SURF & BIKE FILMS
AND Q&A WITH BIG WAVE LEGEND ANDREW COTTON
Red Bull’s FREE, open air, big screen cinema is back as part of this year’s Sheffield Adventure Film Festival at 6.30pm on Saturday 5th April.
Overlooking the city skyline above the train station, 'Cityscape Cinema' will once again light up the stunning amphitheatre with a live Q&A with big wave legend Andrew Cotton following his potentially record breaking ride in Portugal last month and back-to-back extreme sports films including:
- Red Bull Danny MacAskill's Imaginate - the behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of world-renowned trials rider Danny MacAskill’s most ambitious film to date.
- Red Bull Rampage – the pinnacle of freeride mountain biking with 25 riders going head to head and breath-taking 60 foot back-flip jumps.
- Red Bull Perspective – Hollywood quality cinematography captures the coming together of four of the world’s best skateboarders.
- 'Behind the Lines' – exclusive footage by filmmaker Mikey Corker of Devon surf legend Andrew Cotton preparing for and riding the potentially record-breaking 80 foot giant wave, followed by live Q&A with Andrew Cotton.
WHERE: Amphitheatre South Street Park, above Sheffield train station (S1 2BP)
WHEN: 18.30-20.30 Sat 5th April (+ Tour de Cinema 16.00-18.00)
COST: Free admission!
From 4pm as
part of the Tour De Cinema celebrations ahead of the Grand Depart of the Tour de France in Yorkshire, Danny Butler’s Extreme Mountain Bike Stunt Show at 3pm in front of the train station will be followed by free screenings of:
- Velorama – a new, specially-commissioned film created from stunning BFI archive film about a Century of the Bicycle.
- 7 Cogs of Sheffield and North – two new films by Sheffield film-makers about the city’s vibrant mountain-bike community.
- From the Ground Up – about bespoke British bike builders BTR fabrications.
34 year big wave surfer Andrew Cotton, who will find out in May whether he’s the new world record holder after official adjudication by the Guinness Book of World Records, said:
“It’s been a really exciting winter for me and it’s great to have been invited up by Red Bull to Sheffield to show people this short piece about what I’ve been up to. It’s great to know people are interested and I hope everyone enjoys it.”
“That particular wave was ginormous but we’ve had loads of good waves all winter. For everyone else, it’s all over in just 10 seconds but for me one wave doesn’t sum it up because I’ve worked hard all my life for that moment. The second you’re committed and in the water and you know you’re going to get a big wave, your passions and your dreams take over.”
Sheffield Adventure Film Festival Director Matt Heason said: “It was amazing to put on such an unforgettable evening enjoyed for free by hundreds of people last year. We’re grateful to Red Bull for bringing Cityscape Cinema back to Sheffield and hope people will walk, skate and cycle to the cinema for this very special, one-off event.”
