Auriyga - http://www.auriyga.com/
Auriyga is a six piece folk group based in Birmingham. The are all students at the Birmingham Conservatoire and with a passion for folk music they decided to get together and see what happened! With 10 different instruments, numerous voices and a handful of shakey eggs, the sound world this band can create is very exciting.
Barry Hunt - http://www.chloeandbarryhunt.co.uk/
Chloe and Barry perform acoustic music with a twist. Their voices in harmony are first class and their exceptional accompaniment make them a highly desirable entertaining duo suitable for all types of venues. They perform unusual covers of the worlds greatest artists and are also very experienced songwriters and recording artists.
Danny Millar - http://www.youtube.com
Dan Millar is clearly passionate about playing his guitar, some may say he spends far to long playing the thing and should get out more. Having played bass in many bands throughout his teenage years, Dan turned his attention to playing a 12 string accoustic whilst studying at uni. Since then Dan has combined his love for playing with a love for travelling, having played and busked around the UK, Europe and Scandinavia.
Fiona Hughes - http://www.myspace.com/fionahughes
Fiona Hughes writes in the tradition of guitar based singer songwriters. Her songs are simple and from the heart. Her forthcoming album 'Everything I Am' includes collaborations with Iain Archer (Snow Patrol/Tired Pony) and Paul Statham (Dido) amongst others. Fiona also writes for other artists under the banner 'The Avantia Project' and is currently completing an eighty song multi genre, multi media project for release 2012. She has studied Music Production, including scoring for film, at ATM studios in Bristol and has an MA in songwriting from BathSpa University. Fiona will be running a songwriting workshop 10th/11th March in association with SHAFF. Spaces are limited so book now.
Lucy Spraggan - http://www.facebook.com/lucyspraggan
ucy’s song-writing and singing has taken her across most of the northern hemisphere; as Lowell George would have put it, from Tuscon to Tucumcari, Tehachapi to Tonapah. Lucy was spotted playing at Manchester’s Pride Festival in 2009 by the organisers of Gaydays, an enormous festival in Florida that has been running for 21 years. In 2010 Lucy used the festival as a springboard, going from there right the way across the United States, skimming the Mexico borders and California playing gigs in almost all of the 50 states over a three-month tour. In 2011 Lucy came 2nd in the National Talent Competition Live and Unsigned and is now Lucy is back home for an explosive summer on the British festival scene with gigs already confirmed for Osfest, Live fest, Nothern Pride, L fest and many more.
Rhiannon Watkins - http://www.myspace.com/rhiwatkinsmusic
Rhi Watkins is a Sheffield born singer song writer with a passion to write songs about real life issues, but also to put a smile on people's faces. She's taken some time off from the Sheffield music scene for a while, but is back with some brand new songs (and some oldies) to make her anticipated return to music at the SHAFF!
Roger’s House
Dave Alderson and Karen Scholes have been performing together as Roger's House for 5 years with an eclectic mix of covers that they simply love to play. Dave has been playing guitar for over 20 years and when not performing with Karen, enjoys strumming in his jazz duet, Sunny Gets Blue. Performing in venues around Sheffield, such as the Lescar, they have a relaxed style, so feel free to sing along if you know the words!
Rosie Abbot - http://www.reverbnation.com/rosieabbott
Songwriter/musician from Nottingham. I write, play, record and produce all my own music (no flashy gadgetry involved) - just my humble little 8-track BossBR900CD, a microphone and a few cheap instruments (plus the occasional woodpigeon.) I've played many acoustic gigs in and around Nottingham at venues including The Maze, The Jam Cafe, Alley Cafe, Lee Rosy's, Hotel Deux, The Loft, The Central,
Loggerheads, Bunkers Hill, The Rescue Rooms, The Priory (Loughborough), The Canalhouse and The Golde...
Sarah Mac - http://www.myspace.com/sarahmacuk
Singer/songwriter Sarah Mac is Sheffield's little treasure, definitely worth a listen. Throughout her album she combines dramatic piano parts and pretty melodies with unique soulful vocals to create a perfect mix of catchy jazzy/poppy tracks. Have no doubt you'll be singing along to her songs all night! She has just released her debut EP, Everyone Knows, and is working towards completing a new album. Sarah Mac has a huge musical background, being linked to The Beatles, Billy J.Kramer and the Dakotas, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and even Elvis Presley through her Father's (Robbie MacDonald) 40 year career in the music industry.
Simon Jacques
Journey man, rambling session guitarist, happy playing where the wind blows from Barnsley or Bolton to Prague or Grindleford. Studio phobic but will play for pennies.
Sophie & Mel
Sophie and Mel are the good looking half of The Ides and regularly perform to packed audiences in very small venues. There has been a lot of speculation in the press, namely Garden and Gun weekly (top entertainment for the man and woman of the house) that this signals the end of The Ides due to "musical differences". This is categorically not true (just don't tell Kirk and Neil that we are performing without them).
S-Unit (DJ) - www.facebook.com/smallarmsfiya
Part of Sheffield's Small Arms Fiya musical collective & co-presenter of the Stay Left radio show, Wednesday nights on Sheffield Live 93.2fm, S-Unit has collected a mass of old classics, guilty pleasures & modern hits which may have you up dancing or sat head in hands...either way you'll be sure to have a confused smile on your face.
The Ides
One beautiful Spring evening, Sophie was skipping in the woods when she came upon a clearing in the trees. The half-moon lit a strange sight. There were three old men, each sat on a tree stump, humming tunes to themselves. She carefully stepped closer and heard that one of them was humming a rock tune, she stepped on and heard the other humming a punk song and the next was humming a rockabilly melody. She sprinkled faery dust on their heads and each man became a little younger, pulled out an instrument and started playing music together. Sophie was so moved by the magical sound that she sang as soulfully as she could. The Ides were born.
The Northern Generals - http://www.facebook.com/thenortherngenerals
The Northern Generals (not actually named after the hospital) are an alternative rock/indie band from Sheffield. The band was formed origionally in 2009 by guitarist Tom Bridgewater and bassist Doug Simpson with drummer Rhiannon Harling joining soon after. In 2010, best friend of Tom, Josh Kirk joined the band as lead vocalist and soon also became rhythm guitarist. after around 8 months of rehearsing covers and making a set of their own material, the band finally got their act together and played their first gig at The Plug Sheffield on 12/02/11. They have played in many other venues since including the St Patrick's Day tent, Greystones Backroom and o2 academy sheffield over the past year but have struggled to organise song production, a new years resolution for 2012. The music is inspired by many big rock bands such as Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes and The Libertines as well as more dance-punk artists such as Two-door Cinema Club and Foals.
