The Chamber tells the story of the discovery of Sarawak Chamber in Mulu. Not only the largest cave chamber yet found but also the largest enclosed space in the world.
Following the original explorers as they return to the chamber 30 years later, the film gives us an insight into what its like to be the first person to enter such a place and also asks how it can exist at all and actually still be growing.

Already many times bigger than anything man made, or even its nearest natural rival, the chamber is a unique geological phenomenon located deep in a rainforest hiding numerous cave systems and equally spectacular wildlife. Filmed and produced by Emmy award winning cameraman Gavin Newman, the film uses the latest in lightweight filming techniques to tell the story of one of the worlds most ancient places.

The majority of the film was shot during a two week period, working alongside the Mulu 2012 expedition, rather than as a dedicated filming trip. A second short trip with a smaller team was undertaken later in the year to gather extra background material of the surrounding caves and forest areas. At ShAFF Gavin will tell the story behind this very personal project from having to conquer a serious phobia of spiders to the challenges of working in one of the most difficult filming environments on earth.

The evening will conclude with the world first showing of the finished film and a Q&A session with its producer.
