The Penguin Runner
South African scuba instructor Dave Chamberlain has run over 15,000km in the last three years through Namibia, South Africa, Canada and Argentina to raise awareness for various conservation groups.
In October 2013, he departed Walvis Bay, Namibia running 2,700km on a liquid-only diet and running with a pram containing his tent and sleeping bag. Dave entered Port Elizabeth, South Africa after four continuous months of running. This run was to raise awareness of the African Penguin - which is threatened with extinction.
Director Morgan Cardiff is an Environmental Scientist by trade and self-taught photographer and filmmaker. In 'The Penguin Runner' he documents four weeks of Dave's run through the Southern Namibian Desert and into the Northern Cape of South Africa. Battling extreme temperatures, water scarcity and a few local wildlife encounters, the film looks at the inspiration and drivers behind such a project and takes you on a visual journey through the oldest desert on the planet.
Morgan's currently looking for production partners for the next installment ' West to the Sea ' charting the Canadian leg of Dave's epic journey.
